Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple way to estimate whether someone has a healthy weight in relation to their height. It helps determine if a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese.
The formula for BMI is:
BMI = Weight (kg) / Height (m)²
If you measure in pounds and inches, the formula becomes:
BMI = (Weight (lbs) / Height (inches)²) × 703
Example:
A person who weighs 70 kg and is 1.75 meters tall will have a BMI of:
BMI = 70 / (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.86
This falls within the “Normal weight” range.
